『아시아인에 특화된 비중격코성형 가이드라인 제시』 

獨 스프링거와 ‘Asian Septorhinoplasty’ 저서 출간

고려대학교 구로병원 성형외과 동은상 교수가 아시아인의 비중격코성형 가이드라인을 담은

 ‘Asian Septorhinoplasty’를 의과학 전문 국제 출판사 스프링거(Springer)와 최근 출판했다.

 이 책에는 서양인과는 형태적, 기질적으로 다른 아시아인 코수술의 고난도 케이스 소개와 그에 따른 해결방법이 17 챕터에 걸쳐 수록되어 있다. 

비중격코성형술 및 이차 코 성형술 시 발생할 수 있는 감염, 염증, 코막힘 등의 합병증 해결방법부터

 아시아인에 어울리는 코 부위별 성형방법, 이식재 선택법, 수축된 코 및 

콧구멍 비대칭 교정법, 비중격이 절제된 환자의 수술팁 등을 포함해 아시아인에서 발생할 수 있는 

고난도 사례별로 상세한 해결방법과 지침이 담겨있다. 

 동은상 교수는 “서양인과는 다른 아시아인에 특화된 코수술 지침서를 준비하였다”며 

“이 책에는 30여 년간 코성형을 하면서 축적해 온 방대한 사례와 증거를 기반으로 한 아시아인 코수술에서의 다양한 문제별 해결책이 담겨있다. 

해외에서도 아시아인의 코수술이 많이 시행되고 있는 만큼 이 책이 전 세계에서 유용하게 활용되길 바란다”고 소감을 밝혔다.

Establishing Guidelines for Septorhinoplasty Tailored to Asians

Professor Eunsang Dhong of the Department of Plastic Surgery at Korea University Guro Hospital has recently published Asian Septorhinoplastywith Springer,

 a leading international publisher specializing in medical science.

This book presents a comprehensive guide to septorhinoplasty techniques specifically tailored for Asian patients, 

whose nasal structures differ morphologically and biologically from those of Western individuals.

 Spanning 17 chapters, the volume addresses complex surgical cases and provides detailed solutions for complications such as infection,

 inflammation, and nasal obstruction that can occur during primary and secondary rhinoplasty. 

It also outlines techniques for region-specific nasal augmentation, graft selection strategies, correction of nostril asymmetry and contracted noses, 

and surgical approaches for patients with resected septal cartilage.

Professor Dhong stated,

 “This book serves as a dedicated guideline for nasal surgery specifically designed for Asians, 

taking into account anatomical and physiological differences from Western patients.

 Drawing on more than 30 years of surgical experience and a vast body of clinical evidence, 

I have compiled practical solutions to the diverse challenges encountered in Asian rhinoplasty. 

With the increasing global demand for nasal surgery in Asian patients, I hope this book will be a valuable reference worldwide.”

Professor Dhong earned his medical degree and Ph.D. from Korea University College of Medicine.

 He currently serves as President of the Korean Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 

a board member of the Rhinoplasty Society of Asia (RSA), and Chairman of the Seoul Rhinoplasty Forum. 

He is also the Korean National Delegate to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS).

세계적 의학출판사 스프링거와 출간

 고려대학교 구로병원 성형외과 동은상 교수가 아시아인을 위한 비중격 코성형의 최신 술식을 집대성한

 두 번째 단독 저서 『Asian Septorhinoplasty: Septal L-Strut Extension Graft』를 글로벌 의과학 전문 출판사 스프링거(Springer)를 통해 최근 출간했다.

이는 3년 전 출간되어 국내외에서 호평을 받은 첫 저서 『Asian Septorhinoplasty: Conundrums and Solutions』의 후속작으로, 

이번 신간에서는 동 교수가 오랜 기간 임상에서 시행해 온 자가조직 기반의 비중격 연장이식술(Septal L-Strut Extension Graft)을 중심으로, 

그간 SCI 국제학술지에서 다루기 어려웠던 고난도 임상 사례와 노하우를 19개의 챕터에 걸쳐 정리하였다. 또한 실제 수술 영상을 함께 수록하여 술기의 이해도를 높였다.

동 교수는 “아시아인의 코성형은 서양의 수술기법과는 근본적으로 접근 방식이 달라야 한다”며,

 “숙련된 기술을 넘어서 아시아인의 해부학적 특성과 미적 기준에 기반한 전략과 철학이 필요하다”고 강조했다.

또한 그는 “이 책은 30여 년간 축적한 수천 건의 임상경험과 사례를 기반으로 하여, 아시아 코성형의 복잡하고 다양한 문제에 실질적인 해결책을 제시하고자 한 것”이라며, 

“전문술기의 전수가 단절된 현재의 안타까운 의료 현실 속에서도, 후학과 국제 의료진에게 도움이 되기를 바라는 마음으로 집필에 임했다”고 소감을 밝혔다. 

“특히 동아시아를 넘어 서남아시아, 미주 등지에서도 아시아인의 코성형이 활발히 이루어지고 있는 만큼, 

이 책이 세계적으로도 유용한 교과서가 되기를 기대한다”고 덧붙였다.

동은상 교수는 대한미용성형외과학회 이사장, 국제미용성형외과학회(ISAPS) 한국 대의원, 서울 코성형포럼 회장 등을 역임했으며, 

현재는 아시안 코성형학회(RSA)의 창립자이자, 

국제학술지 Aesthetic Surgery Journal (ASJ) 및 Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (APS)의 섹션 에디터로도 활발히 활동하고 있다.

Professor Eunsang Dhong of Korea University Guro Hospital Publishes Second Landmark Textbook on Asian Septorhinoplasty with Springer

Professor Eunsang Dhong, chief of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Korea University Guro Hospital, 

has recently published his second authoritative textbook on Asian rhinoplasty titled “Asian Septorhinoplasty: 

Septal L-Strut Extension Graft” through the prestigious global medical publisher Springer.

Following his well-received first volume “Asian Septorhinoplasty: 

Conundrums and Solutions” released three years ago

which provided a theoretical foundation for preventing complications such as infection, inflammation, and nasal obstruction in Asian rhinoplasty

this new publication represents the second installment in the series. The latest book elaborates on Dr. Dhong’s original techniques using only autologous tissue for septal extension grafting. 

Divided into 19 comprehensive chapters, the book includes detailed surgical videos and clinical insights that were not previously covered in international SCI journals.

Professor Dhong emphasizes that achieving success in Asian rhinoplasty requires a fundamentally different approach from Western techniques

not just in technical execution, but in surgical philosophy and strategic planning. 

He asserts that Asian rhinoplasty demands its own surgical doctrine tailored to the unique anatomical and aesthetic characteristics of Asian patients.

“In preparing this surgical guidebook for Asian noses, I aimed to share the knowledge accumulated over more than 30 years in rhinoplasty,” said Professor Dhong. 

“It presents evidence-based solutions to the unique challenges frequently encountered in nasal surgery for Asian patients. 

Amid concerns about a generational gap in surgical mentorship in Korea, I have committed myself to fostering knowledge transfer to the next generation. 

I also hope this book serves as a practical resource not only in East Asia but also in South and Southeast Asia, where demand for Asian rhinoplasty is growing.”

Professor Dhong is a former president of the Korean Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the Rhinoplasty Society of Korea.

 He has served as the Korean national delegate to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), 

and is the founding member of the Rhinoplasty Society of Asia (RSA). 

He is also a section editor for two leading international journals: Aesthetic Surgery Journal (ASJ) and Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (APS).
